Among the strategies, I would teach my students modal verbs and softners (modifiers / downtoners) because those are probably the most comprehensible for the students. And I think comparing the remarks of the students with those made my native speakers of English is an effective way to raise students...

Teaching pragmatic strategies is indeed very important especially in ESP, because if learners are unaware of how they should be polite in either oral or written communcications, they man face the risk of damaging current relationships, which could cost them a lot in career building.
